Steve

I’m a life-long learner with an insatiable curiosity about life. I love travel, good food, and good company. I’m happy to share what I know with others….even the interesting stuff! My outlook on life is pretty well captured in this quote from a book about the legend of King Arthur: “You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn!” ― T.H. White, The Once and Future King

Stephen DaleAugust 10, 2010October 11, 2020

I liked this article by Ron Howard, CTO of Telligent. I have a minor quible with the title of the original post (How to manage a sustainable community) which infers some form of hierarchical control, whereas my experience of on-line communities is…

UK Government Sticks to IE6

Stephen DaleAugust 2, 2010October 11, 2020

Just some of the reaction to the UK government’s response to a petition submitted to Downing Street in February that opposed UK Gov’s continued endorsement of Microsoft’s IE 6. It shows a complete and absolute misunderstanding of the issue. …

Councillor faces inquiry over tweet calling Church of Scientology ‘stupid’.

Stephen DaleJuly 28, 2010October 11, 2020

It would appear that the inmates really are in control of the asylum. I can accept that an elected official must abide by a code of conduct when blogging or tweeting in an official capacity, but surely most sane people would accept this for what i…

Is Facebook headed for trouble?

Stephen DaleJuly 21, 2010October 11, 2020

For anyone who has used/still uses Facebook, then probably nothing here too surprising. Maybe generation Y users (who apparently scored it a bit higher than generation X users) don’t yet have the experience to know what a good user interface looks…

Martha Lane Fox wants all citizens of working age online

Stephen DaleJuly 15, 2010October 11, 2020

A noble aim, but is it a realistic target? After all there is: (a) no budget (b) no incentive for retailers to provide cheap or subsidised access (c) dogged reluctance from some to use the internet (even if it was free) (d) little support for novi…
