Steve

I’m a life-long learner with an insatiable curiosity about life. I love travel, good food, and good company. I’m happy to share what I know with others….even the interesting stuff! My outlook on life is pretty well captured in this quote from a book about the legend of King Arthur: “You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn!” ― T.H. White, The Once and Future King

Interesting issue that I guess I should have picked up on before, since I’ll usually jump onto any bandwagon that means justice and value for the ordinary citizen, but The Guardian are running a campaign to make public-funded information freely av…

The cabinet reshuffle

Stephen DaleMay 7, 2006October 10, 2020

Well, just as David Milliband was getting to grips with his brief for the local government sector (and not doing that bad a job actually), it’s a case of stirring up the gene pool again and ensuring that policy and strategy remains as opaque (no…..

Briefly checked out a new (? – well, new to me anyway) community web site at www.myplace.com. looks pretty neat and has some rich functionality – blogs, etc. I’m sure it could be adapted for business purposes, e.g. for developing public sector com…

Government web site rankings

Stephen DaleApril 15, 2006October 10, 2020

Interesting fact: eGMS – so much for the government’s “mandatory” metadata requirement; 73% of central and 42% of local government websites fail the requirements on every single page, including important sites such as direct.gov.uk, the Cabinet Of…
